ZXMods is a company which produces high quality case modding gear which is very unique in most cases. They have a lot of different things that you can use to mod you case, I think their trademark product would be their Antec window kits. They were kind enough to send over this laser cut fan grill and standoff kit and have been very patient with me while I got it done. The idea of this kit is to have the grill standoff of the case giving it a 3D look to it and should look pretty cool.
ZXMods also sent along an 80mm Thermaltake fan with the grill and standoff kit. Taking a look at the setup from the side you can see that the kit is made-up of only a few parts, there is the laser cut metal fan grill, then there are risers which are 1/4″ tall x 5/16″ in diameter which go between the grill and the fan. The screw goes through the grill and riser then through the fan and out the bottom where a washer and nut hold it all together.
You can see a little better in this picture how the risers look with the fan and grill I think it looks a lot better with the risers than if it had none and the grill was just sitting right on the fan. I took off the riser kit to see how the grill would look all by itself, like I suspected the riser kit does make a differance and makes everything look better.
This all looks really cool so far but I wanted to kick it up a notch, so I took a clear fan with blue LEDs in it and decided to mount it to my case that I wrote my case painting guide on. I took the Thermaltake fan off and mounted the clear one to my case and here is what it looks like, very very cool in my opinion. As you can see from the picture on the right the grill is raised off the case giving it a 3D effect, although the picture does not do it justice it gives you an idea of what you can expect from this setup.
I turned the lights off and powered up the fan, this setup looks awesome, especially with the glowing underneath it. I was a little skeptical when I first got this product that it wouldn’t own up to what it was supposed to do but now that I have it all installed and going I can say without a doubt that this riser kit works really well and does look very cool.
This is a short little review but my point is pretty clear I think, this is a very inexpensive mod that you can do and will take you no time at all. It is a very cool idea and can make your case mod look even better than it already does by adding these risers to your fan grills. The fact that they are so inexpensive makes it even better, a lot of the time when case mod products are made and sold they are very overpriced, this is not the case with these. Because I really like this setup I am going to give this riser kit setup a 9/10 and award it the OCmodshop Seal of Approval. I would like to thank ZXMods for sending this kit over, you should really head over and check out their new site design and pick up some things from them.
