A question almost as old as WoW itself… What is the best and fastest way to level my character? Now, anyone you ask is going to tell you one of two things: “Grinding is the best way” or “The fastest way is Questing”. I’m here to tell you they are both right.
Anyone who plays Warcraft knows what grinding and questing are. But for those of you who are new or haven’t even started playing yet, here’s a little terminology for you. Questing is the art of doing quests provided in-game for the sole purpose of increasing your character’s experience (or XP) and thereby increasing your character’s level. Grinding is basically killing monsters or mobs that roam the lands of Warcraft and gaining XP and leveling that way. Either technique works well, but it depends on how you go about it as to how fast you level.
This is pretty straight-forward. When you enter the game you will be level 1. Simply find a nearby quest giver who has a yellow exclamation over his head, and do what you are told. This is fairly easy and you will level fast right up until about level 12, depending what faction you are playing and what character you chose.
After that the quests send you on longer journeys for harder to get items or harder to kill mobs. If you do chose to quest your way to the top, I would recommend looking up one of the World of Warcraft 1-70 guides available anywhere online. They will help you chose the proper quests and learn how to pick ones that can be done at the same time to maximize your experience gain. It is also a good idea to share quests, that way you and a friend will complete the quest together and both gain experience and items or pay. This is a great way to complete quests where a monster that is a higher level than you has to be killed.
This is best done when you are a Warlock or a Hunter, as you can send your pet or minion in to attack your target, leaving you a safe distance away to shoot arrows or throw fireballs. As a Warlock, your minion can sometimes kill creatures eight levels higher than you. This has an enormous advantage when grinding. Once again, it is not hard to Google for results on the best places to grind your character.
Personally, I think the best way to play the game is simply to play it and enjoy it. Mix it up and do a little grinding and questing. Too many people sign in and play this game like it is some kind of job that they are forced to go to every day. Getting to level 70 is supposed to be hard, and it is supposed to take a long time. So take this advice from the good people at Blizzard; “Take all things in moderation, even World of Warcraft.”
