The next five Fallen

10. Cool Tech Zone

CoolTechZone started in around 2004 and had a good following until about 2007. While researching the site errored out 2007 but emerged a year or so later with a different layout.  It looks like their last article was in August of 2010, and the site is now serving up the creamy white-screen filling.

9. Fast Lane HW

The site ran from 2004 and stopped producing articles in 2009, and in 2011 it went dark.  Before it was turned off, it had this messge:

FastLaneHW.com had a great run, but is now closed. Thanks to all the loyal visitors throughout the years.

8. Viper Lair

The “Viper” in ViperLair comes from the “Viper” series of video cards produced by Diamond Multimedia, which enabled 3d gaming on PCs and competed with 3dfx at the time.  There were several websites that named themselves after PC product names, but after the products evolved the sites lost their association.  It’s like having a site called “Windows 95 forums” and now people don’t think it’s relevant.   But I digress…

Viper Lair had a lot of good articles on PC hardware and video cards, but it looks like their last article was in February of 2011.  The site soon went dark after that without explanation.

7. Mod The Box

This site was very active in the day and had good reviews on PC hardware.  It looks like their last article posting was in February of 2010, but they have posted news as early as January of 2012.

It’s possible that they may make a comeback.  Let me get a prediction from my Magic 8-ball…. Signs point to “No”.

6. Voided Warranty

Voided Warranty was one of the sites that really focused on modding.  They had a good mix of hardware reviews, home theater guides, PC gaming information, and modding articles.  They slowly stopped producing articles in 2007, and gave up the big 404 in 2008.

Ah, The TechZone…who knew over a decade ago when I joined the forums for help with a problem I would end up "working" there for years, then moving on to actually work for other tech sites? Thank you for this list! There were a few sites on there I was wondering what had happened to them.
