Thermaltake’s “BigWater 745” Watercooling Kit Reviewed
OCModshop :: Wednesday, April 26, 2006
Quote: “Today I am going to have look at the Bigwater 745 from Thermaltake, what makes this kit different from other is the choice of radiators. Included in this kit are a single 120mm and a dual 12mm radiator, the last of which can be installed outside of the case. Why just install the Bigwater 745 the way it’s meant to be installed, I will do some small modding to be able to fit it all in my Lian-Li V2000B. Let’s have a look if the product fits and how it performs….”

WolfKing Timber Wolf Gaming Keyboard Review

Review Quote: ” The first, and most differentiating, feature of this keyboard is its FPS (First Person Shooter) Gaming Pad. This pad sits on the left side of the keyboard, and is an absolute dream for anyone who plays a First-Person Shooter style game. Two unique features about this part of the keyboard are its vertical space bar, and its K-lock key.”

The Dream’eo Solo PMP w/GPS:
OCModshop :: Wednesday, April 26, 2006

The Solo is a typical looking PMP device with a 3.5” 320×240 screen, video out, headphone jack, built in microphone, hard drive, and a media slot. So the engineers at dream’eo asked when and where do your use a PMP? The answer came back as on the road or going from place to place. Then the light came on…how about adding a GPS to the design so when people are traveling about they can find their way easier. Brilliant!

Canon PowerShot SD630
OCModshop :: Wednesday, April 26, 2006

“Three of the biggest trends for 2006 are digicams with more potent 6-megapixel imagers, larger 3-inch LCD screens and higher sensitivity (ISO). For those not swimming in the digital camera sea every day, 6MP imagers are the new sweet spot for most manufacturers, up from 5 last year and 4MP the in 2004. Since next year is 2007, will 7MP be new standard at that time? Who cares? We’ll deal with what’s currently in our hands–which are cameras with ever higher resolution. ”

Review Quote:”After installing and getting everything setup with the Transformer case we do realize that this case is a good case. It does its job well, it keeps things 100% cool better then almost all of the cases I have had or worked with. All the included extras like the grills, fans and light tube make this case a damn good buy. But we do feel that it was a rush job when it came to making it. Because if they actually spent a little more time on it they wouldn’t have had the two big mess ups we feel that it had.”

Disney Opens a can of Whoop-ass: Kingdom Hearts 2 Review
OCmodshop :: Wednesday, April 19, 2006
The original Kingdom Hearts has become a cult classic among most PS2 gamers. Kingdom Hearts II steps above and beyond its predecessor by improving the graphics, the camera (thank God…), and still manages to have gameplay riveting enough to pull gamers through this incredibly long RPG.

Contrary to popular opinion, a love of Disney movies and characters is not needed to enjoy Kingdom Hearts. Personally, the return of my beloved Final Fantasy characters was enough for me to shell out the $50 for the game. The mish-mash between Final Fantasy and Disney doesn’t really make a lot of sense, but it doesn’t have to! The story works so well that the relationship at many times isn’t even noticeable. Players start the first three hours of the game as a troubled kid named Roxas. This time is mostly spent getting acquainted with the controls and story. Roxas has been having dreams about Sora, Donald, and Goofy. Even at this stage in the game, it is obvious that the two heroes are connected.

VIZO Master Panel Offers Front Door Action!
OCmodshop :: Thursday, April 13, 2006
The MasterPanel was really easy to install into my computer. I just had to pop out the one front access panel cover I had left and put in four screws. Attaching the device to the system board was just as easy. The MasterPanel utilizes three SATA connectors to bring the functionality of your motherboard to the front of your case. If you are not planning on using the eSATA interface, you can easily leave that connector disconnected, decreasing the demands on your motherboard SATA connectors to two. The ATA interface on the front of the panel utilizes an SATA connector and has a built on SATA-to-ATA bridge chip to convert the signals.

After I got the MasterPanel mounted, the two SATA cables installed (I chose to not connect eSATA) and the floppy style power plug attached, I was ready to start testing. Total installation time was just a few minutes. Without any drives attached, I powered up my computer, followed by the MasterPanel. This is when my frustration started. During POST, my SATA controlled reported a “device configuration error”. I was stumped. I had not done anything besides install the MasterPanel and power on everything. After this error, my computer would not boot and just stayed on the SATA error screen. I powered off the MasterPanel, and hit RESET on my computer. The computer booted flawlessly.

X-Micro WLAN 11g Combo Finder Adapter
OCModshop :: Thursday, April 13, 2006
“I’ve gotten past the whole reviewing video cards thing. At my age, I’m more about the coolness factor, the utility, or the handiness of a gadget. Which is why I rather enjoy the occasional package from the folks at X-Micro. They seem to share my love of tiny packages that pack a lot of use, coming up with products that maybe don’t always have the wide mainstream appeal of the latest GPU but offer up a handy way of dealing with typical real world issues.

Now, fun is all relative, and I have to admit that yes, I’m pretty easy to amuse. So while some folks maybe don’t see the point in driving around town, looking for wireless spots, to me that’s a pleasant afternoon. That’s a good time right there. So a product like the WLan 11g Combo Finder Adapter is right up nerd alley as far as I’m concern. Geek Nirvana.”

GelTabz Xbox 360 Performance Thumb Grips
OCmodshop :: Wednesday, April 05, 2006
It has happened to the best of us… You’ve been humiliated by that one online player over and over again in front of your friends: bitch-slapped to Hades and back, been the frequent flier of Shockwave Air, and been someone’s personal rag-doll… and now you finally have that bastard in your cross-hairs. You’ve practiced your humiliating taunts over and over for this upcoming moment: one more second and your nemesis has an instant lobotomy …

And then your thumb slips off the stick.

It’s all over. He turns around and makes a permanent impression of your face with his Mag-light, ending the one glimmer of hope that you wouldn’t be a loser forever. Your station wagon dies, your house is demolished to make way for a golf course, and your girlfriend leaves you for the hot-shot ski instructor.

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter Review (Xbox 360)
OCmodshop :: Tuesday, April 04, 2006
Ghost Recon has been a highly anticipated release for the Xbox 360, but missed the November 2005 launch. It was pushed back twice in order to ensure the game was not rushed, and was finally released in March, 2006. This version of the series comes with lots of improvements and additional features, but the core of the game is the single-player campaign. GRAW is still the same methodically paced, squad-based sniper game, but the formula has been polished to be palatable for today’s generation. Xbox Live support has been added to this version, so players can get together for sqad-based fun.

The amazing visuals are what make the game so satisfying to play. The character models are extremely detailed and have excellent motion-capture animation. The weapon models are perfectly recreated. The environments are very well done, from the sense of heat in the Mexican afternoon, to the massive polygon count of the city’s details. These extensive environments are also interactive: bullet holes are left in walls, certain building materials are good candidates for the “wall-piercing” sniper bullets, and of course every vehicle is destructible (you can usually activate a car’s alarm by shooting it a few times or taking out its windows).

MadCatz Xbox 360 Microcon
OCModshop :: Sunday, April 02, 2006

MadCatz is expanding their line of Xbox 360 peripherals with the release of their new Xbox 360 Microcon Controller. The Microcon is quite similar in design and function to the MadCatz 360 GamePad Pro, which impressed us months ago with its nice analog sticks and solid shoulder buttons. In fact, the only major differences between the Microcon and the GamePad Pro are their size and the texture of their plastic.

As the name suggests the key point of the Microcon is the fact that it’s small, very small as a matter of fact. Compared to the GamePad Pro and official MS 360 pad, the Microcon is a good 30% less bulky, most similar to the original Playstation controller in overall measurements. Face buttons and the d-pad are all slightly shrunken compared to the GamePad Pro, as are the LB, RB, and Triggers. Analog sticks remain the same size.

Xecuter Xbox360 DVD Firmware Progress: Read, Write Firmware from PC

Transcode 360 Beta 2 has been released, featuring a radically overhauled engine for playback of XviD and DivX (as well as a wide variety of other formats), boasting higher picture quality, lower CPU consumption, faster than real-time transcoding (using FFMPEG under the bonnet); super-tight integration enabling Pause, Skip Forward and Backward, Resume and Restart while transcoding without any need for non-standard user-interface conventions.

My sincerest thanks go to blog-regular bmaltais who has helped tremendously with the prototyping, tweaking, testing and documentation, and of course jmel who’s about to have his bandwidth zapped!!

With our top title, Halo 2, which is being played on both the Xbox and Xbox 360, gamers have spent over 500 million hours playing online.

Not only are the majority of our owners connected, but they are also spending more time connected to the Xbox Live community on Xbox 360 than ever before. The average number of gaming sessions on Xbox Live on Xbox 360 is currently at 25-a-week, which is up dramatically from the average of 6 sessions-a-week we saw on the original Xbox. Xbox Live on Xbox 360 continues to grow as a social community; we are seeing an average of 600,000 text messages sent every day between members on the service.

We have already had over 10 million downloads on Marketplace in the first 4 months on the market, reaching this milestone faster than iTunes did when it launched. Playable game demos remain the most popular item with over half of our consumers downloading these.

Xbox Live Arcade has been an instant hit on the Xbox 360, with over 60% of all connected consoles already downloading and playing Xbox Live Arcade titles. Every Xbox Live Arcade title has a free trial version. To-date, we are seeing on average 20% trial to purchase conversion rates across all Arcade titles, with our top title converting at 39%.
