I have been thinking about updating the site’s branding for a while, because of some of the confusion about the name “OCModShop”.
For one, more people think OC stands for “Orange County” rather than “overclocking”.
“mod” – We cover a lot more than modding.
People confuse “shop” with a store.
Some people associate us with cars and motorcycles (thank you Discovery Channel for making Orange County Choppers a household name). Even the UPS guy thinks that OCModShop is related to cars.
So, over the next month or so I’ll be updating the branding to…
Yes, OSIM is pronounced like “awesome”.
We will be part of the OSIM network
, so there will be
and others… the domains have been registered and you can get to OCModShop using those URLs…
Nah, the OCModShop domain name is pre-paid up til 2011, and the site will probably be up one way or another.
I’m not sure if I’m gonna get all the changes queued up and flip the switch or do it little by little. Either way it’s going to be several months.
I’ll eventually write a redirect so any ocmodshop address gets forwarded to the appropriate new address.
But… do you like the name? I thought it was rather clever!
The weird thing is that OSIM was created by my now 9-year-old son.Apparently in Washington they teach you to sound out words phonetically (which is probably why 90% of native Washingtonians can’t spell worth sh*t)…
So anyway I was reading one of my son’s first-grade essays (one of those “3-sentance paragraphs”, and I came across the sentance “my dad is osim”. I was confused, but my wife told me to sound it out.
And I smiled.
OSIM = Awesome.
It has been an inside joke for several years… and I want to share it.
