Simple upgrade to USB 3.0
Computer technology never stands still for long. It wasn't that long ago that USB took over as the de facto standard for PC computer peripherals, and has evolved into the standard data path for hard drives, cameras, and just about everything else you can think of. USB 2.0 is well and good, but it still doesn't provide the wide data path needed to take full advantage of today's fast hard drives. Hence, the USB 3.0 standard was introduced.
When USB 2.0 was introduced, it took a while for for the technology to become standard on motherboards. Thanks for the review. Good stuff.
One aspect you didn't comment on: impact on system CPU load when using this PCI-e host.
USB 2.0 tends to consume more CPU cycles while doing real work. You don't compare how using this card affects CPU consumption. When compared against the ICH7 or comparing the PCI-e host CPU consumption comparing USB 2.0 against 3.0.
