Title : Tekken 6: Hands On

Return to The King of Iron Fist Tournament

Tekken 6 is essentially done, been out in Japan for a while, and will hit American shores within weeks.

With all that said, we had to get our hands on the new fighter at PAX.

The first thing you’ll notice is the character roster is even larger than the one in Tekken 5. Just about every move set from every game is incorporated in some shape or form, even if it’s not with the same character who started it (kinda like Asuka Kazama was copy of Jun Kazama in Tekken 5).

The graphics are pretty much the same Tekken fare, not much of a step up from Tekken 5. The added hair detail and facial features made it look like it was on a next generation console though.

It was our first chance to play it on both the PS3 and X-Box 360 controllers, and both had different impressions. As expected, the 360 pad just didn’t work with the type of fighting Tekken had. Pulling moves off was a chore, and more times than once were we doing things we didn’t even want to.

The Playstation version controls remain unchanged since the original hit on the PS1 back in the late 90s. If that’s a good thing or a bad thing is up to you since the PS controller has it’s praises and criticism as a fighting game controller.

It just boils down to Tekken fare. If you’re a Tekken fan, check it out. If you aren’t, it isn’t going to change your mind.
