Liquid Gaming?
Everyone on this planet is guilty of brand buying. You, me, your Uncle Lester, even your granny wouldn't buy anything but Pet Milk. It's human nature, we buy things just because they are familiar, no matter what the outcome may be. So of course, when I heard that Mountain Dew was coming out with World of Warcraft Game Fuel, my first instinct was to buy as much of it as I could get my hands on. Because just like Pepsi Josta, it won't be around for long...
What I'm reviewing today is the Alliance version, the Wild Fruit Punch flavor. I'm going to treat this like any other review. I'm going to describe what comes in the package, the packaging itself, the taste, and the results. So first, let's get a little background information on the newest sugar-laced tooth rot to hit the shelves of a store near you.

So there you have it. It'll get you hyped up and ready for gaming in no time. It has absolutely no nutritional value and will probably give you one hell of a sugar crash later on. But we're young, who gives a crap about that? Plus, World of Warcraft soda! Who could pass up on that? So I bought some, and I tell you, it's freaking delicious. I managed to pick up the last 12-pack of cans at Safeway as well as a 20 oz bottle. I wanted to grab some of the Citrus Cherry Horde flavor too, but they didn't carry it. At all.
The box that the canned version comes in is a deep blue, with a female Night Elf on the outside. The box alone makes you want to drink what's inside. Once you get inside, the cans match the box exactly, a deep blue with the same Elf. The bottled version is slightly different, with more colors mixed into the blue around the words and the letters look a little more bronzed.
 
The flavor at first made me a little wary. I don't like flavors in my soda most of the time. I am more of a straight cola man myself, with the exception of some cherry or vanilla in there from time to time. Root beer is okay in moderation as well (read our Bawls g33k b33r review). Fruity drinks? Better as a mixer for adult beverages, that's all I have to say.
Upon tasting the beverage, I was a little surprised that it was actually very good. When I say good, I mean I finished the whole can in a couple of minutes. The flavor was a little better than I expected, and was not nearly as fruity as I feared. It still had a strong fruit flavor to it, but not like that cheap punch soda that costs like 99 cents for a 3-liter. It doesn't take brand preference to make you want to buy it, just a strong thirst for something fruity.
 
In conclusion, I think that it's about time that Warcraft got a drink of its own. Every other game has been stuck on the front of a soda bottle, so why not the Alliance and Horde? It's a little fruity, in more ways than one, but it's also pretty tasty. The only thing that really kind of bothers me is the fact that they named it Game Fuel, like it has something extra to keep you going. In a country that lives on soda, you would have to dump a lot of caffeine or some other herb in it to make a genuine “game fuel”. Otherwise, it's just another soda with a pretty bottle that turns your tongue colors. And yeah, my tongue is blue right now.
