Micro? Tech?
How smooth does your mouse move? Today, I get the pleasure of checking out the Nova MicroTech gaming mousepad. Compared to some of Nova's other mousepads, the MicroTech is a bit smaller than others. For that reason, I decided to check this one out using my laptop and wireless mouse.
As I mentioned in my previous Nova review, their mousepads have the uncanny ability to stick to anything but water, and even that is negotiable. The MicroTech is no different. Sitting in my living room, I stuck the pad to my coffee table beside my laptop. It's hard to turn away when Sci Fi is doing their 31 Day of Halloween. So with Warwick Davis jabbering about gold in the background, I proceeded to check out the pad.
The laptop I am testing on is my Latitude D600, which is what I use for most of my writing. I recently purchased a Gear Head wireless mouse to use with it, and have had no problems out of it so far. So I figured rather than hook up a wired mouse for the testing I might as well use what I would normally use anyway. Gotta get some real world use out of the products, right?

I spent ample time surfing the net with it, and noticed no disruptions in the way the mouse moved. So after a little while I decided to just play WoW for a while and see if the mouse improved my gameplay any. A higher dpi is supposed to improve the mouse's functionality and responsiveness. So I loaded up the game and grabbed a new Vanilla Pepsi out of the fridge. Time to kick some kobold ass.
I noticed during my gameplay that movements in the game seemed much less fragmented than they were before. I keep my resolution set at 1028x786 with a refresh rate of 85Hz, which is pretty standard for the 15” screen on my laptop. The latency in game is usually pretty good at this setting, so I try not to deviate too far from that. That being said, I notice when things in the gameplay are a little off or a little better, and this pad did improve the play a bit.
As I pointed out before, the stickiness off the the porous bottom is damned nice for keeping it in place. I don't know if you've ever had your mousepad shift a little while gaming and the laser beams off the surface of your desk. When that happens, it's always at the most inopportune times and you end up seeing the ceiling of some warehouse while the other guys are straight up fragging your ass. Stick is good, my friends.
My final conclusion is that this is a very nice pad, more than capable of being stored in a laptop bag or used on the desktop for your heavy machinery. I wasn't too fond of the sparkled surface. Glitter is something that could have been done without, but it's there and there's nothing I can do about it. I don't plan on showing up to any LAN parties with it in tow, so I'm not going to fret over it. All in all, it does the job it sets out to do, and in the end, that is what sets the good apart from the mediocre.
