1. also known as nonvolatile memory, NVM, or non-volatile storage.

2. Computer memory that retains information, even when powered off.  Examples of non-volatile memory are flash memory and read-only memory.  This is usually a secondary storage method for long-term persistent storage, and is usually stored on non-magnetic media.
