LOOKING forward to the celebrations of Star Wars 30th anniversary this year is Salford born Jonathan Thompson who has been a presenter on Nickelodeon and has also been on other TV and radio shows. However he is best known for his collection of Retro Arcade machines and not his TV and radio work. The reason for his fame in the arcade world is down to the fact that he owns the biggest collection of privately owned Star Wars Arcade Machines in Europe and also one of the biggest collections of Retro Arcade machines in Europe.
At present Jonathan owns several companies that build, restore and maintain full sized video game cabinets, as well as manufacturing his very own designed machines. When the call came that he was to be invited to exhibit his Star Wars collection in this years Celebration Europe, Star Wars Exhibition in London he could not resist. At last count his Star Wars collection was estimated at around 30 to 40 machines, so quite what he will take is anyones guess.
His huge Star Wars collection ranges from the original Atari Star Wars Cockpit, through to machines like the Star Wars Pinball and a Trilogy full size arcade machine.
This has lead him to be one of the major exhibits at the Celebration Europe, Star Wars Exhibition in London, this year. The stand even carries the backing of Lucas Films themselves. His stand at the exhibition will be combining with fashion brand Joystick Junkies to create a fantastic exhibit.
Jonathan Thompson aims to use the interest in Star Wars and his Voyager Crusade search for the next retro game programmer to help him to develop an idea he holds dear to his heart, the development and building of a museum of arcade machines and computer gaming. He is now in negotiations with Cities in the UK and Europe over plans to build one.
To do a feature story on Jonathan Thompson and his machines or his idea to develop and build a museum, you can do so by calling:- 07904254117
Also he is willing to offer a competition prize to help promote interest in retro gaming and his idea for a museum. www.jt-voyagercrusade.com
